Civil War Search and Volunteers Needed

Do you have Pownal ancestor(s) who fought in the Civil War? Might you have artifacts--letters, diary, photographs or other memorabilia --from that time? Do you have stories to share or know of others in Pownal who might?

The Pownal Historical Society will be participating in the 2012 Vermont History Expo in Tunbridge this spring, June 16 & 17. The theme is Vermont in the Civil War, and we are looking for Pownal connections to this conflict. Did you know that a roster of Civil War soldiers who enlisted in Pownal is listed on our website, www.pownal.org and is also on display at the Solomon Wright Public Library? Check out the family names below for an overview of the roster list. If you are connected to these families we want to hear from you.

The Historical Society is eager to showcase Pownal’s role in the Civil War. We’re also looking for volunteers to help assemble our exhibit for the Expo and to staff our booth in Tunbridge. If you haven’t visited the VT History Expo before, you are in for a treat. Volunteers will receive free entry passes.

Please contact me if you have any information or anecdotes to share. I look forward to hearing from you!

Thank you,

Wendy Hopkins
